DEATH COMES.
Passing Away of the widow of the Late Ex-Senator Charles D. Stuart.
Mrs. Charles D. Stuart, widow of the late ex-Senator Stuart, died at her home 218 west Cedar street, at 12 o'clock last night, aged 82 years. Two hours before she had received a severe stroke of apoplexy. Death, although often expected, comes at the last with a blow. Especially is this true when the call comes so suddenly as it did to Mrs. Stuart. The deceased was born in New York State and was married to Mr. Stuart November 3, 1835 and came at that time to Kalamazoo, when there were not more than fifty houses in the place. Their golden wedding was celebrated nine years ago. Their home for many years was in the house on Stuart avenue now owned by Samuel A. Browne. Two children remain, Mrs. William G. Austin of this city and Charles L Stuart of Chicago. A grandson, Benjamin M Austin, was expected from Ann Arbor today. Mrs. Stuart has been prominently identified with the social history of Kalamazoo for a longer term of years than it is granted most people to enjoy. She was a woman of keen mind and of pronounced opinions. She was kindly and sociable in disposition and a bright conversationalist. Her loss will be much felt by the older residents.
