1888- The Marion County Patriot, April 27, 1888 The Marion County Patriot, No. 17
April 27, 1888 Page Three Suicide of Col. Tom Raines The startling and unexpected news was
received last Friday that Col. Tom Raines, of Crawford County, had committed suicide. Col. Raines
was the father of Mrs. Emma Rushin, of Buena Vista, and was an aged and infirm old man. He had
been in bad health for a long time, and the sad and untimely termination of his life was no doubt the
result of his bad health which had impaired his mind. Our people sympathize with Mrs. Rushin in
her sad affliction.

Bible Records and census-agree he was actually born 1817.
