She was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Guthrie, Okla., to Leon Robert Vance Sr. of Oklahoma and Edna Josephine Hannifin of North Dakota.
They moved to Enid, Okla., where Jean attended school and graduated from Enid High School. She went on to Rosary College in River Forest, Ill. Jean then attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Her father, Leon, had wanted her to attend a state university so she would have a job upon graduation. Jean enjoyed college and joined Kappa Alpha Theta while at the University of Oklahoma.
On Nov. 18, 1939, she married Kenneth Khale Carpenter. He passed away Feb. 15, 1989. She married R. Ed Romack, on June 17, 2008.
Jean was a life long member of the Christ The King Catholic Church.
She enjoyed many things, among which were music and playing the violin in her earlier years. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ed of Hailey; daughters, of Maplewood, N.J., and of Jackpot, Nev.; sons, of Helena, Mont., and of Idaho Falls; daughters, of Idaho Falls and of Houston, Texas; son, of Moscow; brother, of Casper, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Kenneth K. Carpenter; and a brother, Leon Robert Vance Jr.
