Funeral services will be at 2 PM Saturday November 24,2007 in the 1st Baptist Church in Burkburnett with Rev. Bill Liggett,pastor,1st Baptist Church, officiating with interment to follow in the Burkburnett Cemetery. Owens & Brumley of Burkburnett in charge of arrangements.
From early childhood years he either wanted to be a cop or fireman. During high school he decided he wanted to be a policeman,having to wait until he was 18, he made it. He served Burkburnett and the surrounding community tirelessly until his illness slowed him down. Throughout this career of 23 years, he helped numerous people, mostly younger people in trouble. His dedication to Burkburnett, to his hobby's such as Burkweather.com and his support of High School Band and Athletics played a major role in his life.
Tommy served on the National Weather Service Board in Norman,Oklahoma and was an area "Weather Spotter", served as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee of the Nortex Regional Planning Commission. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Burkburnett where he actively helped build and operate the Church sound system. Tommy was positive in every respect and never ran out of jokes, he had one for everyone. He encouraged others to "never give up" and do their best, thats all you can do. Tommy always said to "Talk the talk and walk the walk",
He will be missed.
Survivors: Mother Lois Thornton of Burkburnett; Sister Janet Cox and husband Gary of Burkburnett; Brother Ed Thornton and wife Sherry of Hartford, Connecticut.
