Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Mayfield, wife of Elisha Mayfield, died at her home two and one-half miles north of Millersville, Tuesday, December 21 after an illness of more than two weeks. Mrs. Mayfield, whose maiden name was Crain, was born within a mile of the place where she died, October 20, 1837. Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield were married in 1860, at the outbreak of the Civil War, in which Mr. Mayfield served four years in the federalist Army. During this time Mrs. Mayfield lived in Cape Girardeau. After he obtained an honorable discharge, they returned to his old homeplace where they have been living ever since. Mrs. Mayfield leaves a husband and four children; E.R. Mayfield of Marble Hill, Mrs. Mary Brown of Daisy, Mrs. E.J. Seabaugh of Sedgewickville and Mrs. M.J. Dalton of Millersville, six grandchildren and ? great-grandchildren; also the brother F.E.P. Crain of Oak Ridge, who is past sixty. Mrs. Mayfield's life was remembered largely for doing good to others and was highly respected by all who knew her. She was a member of the Methodist Church. The funeral was held at Old Salem, Thursday at 11 a.m.
