Emma Schey, 100, formerly of Strandquist, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998 at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Home in Karlstad.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Reverend George Davis and Reverend John Riveness officiating. Kathy Rokke was the organist, and Janice Ramsey was the soloist. Casketbearers were Wayne Rood, Michael Rood, Ronnie Anderson, Philip Anderson, Tim Borsvold and David Olson. Burial was in the Karlstad Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Emma Bengston was born on October 4, 1897 in Marsh Grove township of Marshall county, the daughter of Joe and Elsie (Subdahl) Bengston. Emma was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools and later worked as a domestic worker in homes in the area.

On November 17, 1915 she was united in marriage to Henry Schey in Warren. They lived on the Schey farm by Argyle for some time. The couple later moved to a farm east of Strandquist where Emma and Henry spent a good deal of time working on the farm

Emma was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the ladies aid. Later, she attended the Gospel Tabernacle and taught Sunday school there. Emma grew beautiful flower gardens and enjoyed taking bouquets to church. She also enjoyed weaving rugs, crocheting and fishing.

She moved to Oakwood Homes in Karlstad in 1980, Valley Home in Thief River Falls in 1992 and to the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Home in 1996.

Emma is survived by eight children, Hazel Anderson of Tioga, ND, Ethel (David) McWhirter of Minneapolis, Orville (Lee) Schey of St. Paul, Harriet Olson of Richfield, Verna (Dewey) Rood of Thief River Falls, Deloris Linder of Strathcona, Doris (Albert) Olson of Langdon and Beverly (Gordon) Borsvold of Strandquist; 27 grandchildren; 56 six great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 20, 1977; parents; two grandchildren, David and Danny Linder; three sons-in-law, Wesley Anderson, Russell Olson and Arthur Linder; one brother, Ben; and five sisters, Mary, Hannah, Ella, Clara and Adeline.
