Henry Redmond Awbrey, Sr, 68, Branson lawyer and president of the Branson-Holllster Rotary club, died at his home In Branson at 3:30 this morning following an illness of seven and a half months. He was well known as one of the most active Legionnaires in southwest Missouri and had been active in politics as a Republican. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church at Branson. He was born March 16. 1881, in Louisville, Ky., and went to Taney County with his Parents, William and Clara Awbrey, at an early age. In Taney County he served as superintendent of Schools and prosecutor, before moving to Springfield. Enlisting in the Army, May 23, 1916, shortly after moving here, he received his commission, December 15, of that year in the quartermaster corps and went overseas, August 23, 1917. At one time he was in charge of facilities at a port in England , and he came home a Major.
In 1921 he was chosen Commander of Goad-Ballinger American Legion post here. He was the Commander of the 17th Legion district in Missouri in 1934, and later was Commander of the Pemberton. Jennings post In Branson. Awbrey served two terms In the state legislature as a member from Taney county, and friends here said he had also been a Justice of the peace in Greene county. When he first came here he was associated with Guy Cowden in the Insurance business. He also had been a cashier in a bank here. He left Springfield, returning to Branson in 1936.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Awbrey, and two daughters, Clara Lee and Americana May, of the home; a son, Henry R. Awbrey, Jr., Alma, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Harris of Arkansas City. Kan, and Mrs. C. W. Hackett of Iola, Kan.; brother, J. M. Awbrey, 500 South Fort; several nephews and nieces and a grandson.
Funeral arrangements, in charge of the Whelchel Funeral Home at Branson are incomplete at this time. Interment is to be hi National cemetery here .
John H. Fairman, commander of the Goad-Ballinger post here who once defeated Aubrey for the office of probate Judge In Greene county, said today the post honor guard would be called out for the Burial ceremonies.
