Celebration of life services for Melvin Applin, Jr., 50, of Lubbock will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Joe Marshall and Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Mel went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008.

He was born May 5, 1958, in Hobbs, N.M., to Melvin, Sr., and Frankie (Patterson) Applin. Mel married the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Riley on Aug. 1, 1981, in Lubbock. Mel was a dialysis patient in Lubbock for 29 years. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. C.J. Wheeler and the staff at Redbud Dialysis Center for their wonderful care. He attended Monterey Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Liz; mother, Frankie Applin; sister, Shirley Mee; niece Holly Mee; nephew, Andrew Mee; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
