William Houston Irwin born 31 Jan 1834 in Roane Co, TN to Samuel Irwin and Matilda Ann Bell. William was 3rd child of 8. William married Sarah Frances Elledge on 9 May 1861 in Madison County, Texas. William enlisted May 1, 1862 (Leon County, Texas) in Company B, 22nd Regiment of Texas Infantry under Captain John T Wilson's - Col. Richard Hubbard's Regiment as an Infantry Private at the beginning of the Civil War. About July or August 1864 he came by home on his way to Join Benevades command at Brownsville. He was discharged in 1865. They lived in Leon County, Texas about 20 years (1861 - 1880), Milam County Texas about 10 years, then to Falls County, Texas from about 1891 to 1901 and then to Scurry County for about 20 years. William died in Scurry County, Texas on 26 Nov 1905. The aging Sarah moved to Motley County after the 1920 census, most likely due to her daughter, Argie (Irwin) Montgomery and son, Billy Irwin living here. Sarah and William had 11 children.
