Enid Walker was the second child born to Harry Walker and Mary Sarah Banks after they imigrated to Canada from Foulridge, Lancs. in Great Britain. They'd come to work in the cotton mills in Valleyfield Quebec. They'd had two children in Lancs. But the second child Donald was sickly with respiratory problems and they felt the cleaner air in Canada was better for him then the mill towns of northern Great Britain. Unfortunately, while traveling to Canada by ship their oldest child Doreen became ill and died while they were still on ship in the North Atlantic, she was buried at sea.

When Enid was very young her family moved to Lachine after WWI. Harry had fought for Canada and suffered from a Mustard Gas attack. He could never work indoors in a confined area again, he got a job with The Dominion Bridge Company working their gardens.

When Enid was in grade 5 in school the family was going through very tough times and she was taken out of school and sent to work as a Domestic to help out the family. School was expensive and it was thought only the boys really needed it.

She married Lucien Theriault in 1937 after a whirlwind romance of only 5 months, a marriage that lasted 52 years and produced two living children Harry in 1938 and Lynda in 1948. They lost a little girl Yvonne in 1946, she only lived for 7 weeks with the hole in her heart. An easy fix today.

Enid was a champion darts player, the Provincial Champion in singles, teams and pairs more then once. She worked hard for the Canadian Legion and was President of the Woman's Aux. many times. She headed commitiees to visit the War Vets every month at the Ste. Anne's hospital. Organized the March of Dimes every year and was always available when someone needed a hand. She and my father loved animals and took in many strays and helped many a bird with a broken wing.

The family of Enid Walker Theriault would like to thank Edda Meinikat for sponsoring her memorial. Thank you Edda
