Frieda Hanchett, 78, Resident Of Kamiah

KAMIAH Frieda Hanchett, a Kamiah homemaker and former Asotin resident, died Thursday in a car accident at Lewiston. She was 78.

She was born Feb. 26, 1912, at Asotin to N. Ray and W. Belle Critchfield Hulse. She attended schools at Asotin, graduating from Asotin High School in 1930.

She married Hale W. Hanchett in 1933 at Clarkston, where they made their home. They were later divorced. In 1936 she moved back to Asotin, where she lived until moving to Kamiah in 1980.

She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed fishing, photography, animals, her family, the outdoors and collecting historical articles of events in Asotin county and surrounding area.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen (Dolly) Hanchett of Kamiah; a son, Gary L. Hanchett of Lewiston; a sister, Edna Fishburn of Portland, Ore., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A sister, Grace Price, died previously.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (May 7) at the Asotin Cemetery. Marion Renfro, an elder with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Clarkston, will officiate.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, N. 820 Summit Blvd., Spokane, Wash. 99201-1598. Merchant Funeral Home at Clarkston is in charge of arrangments.
