Lewis Ashby, 83, of Rt. 3, died Friday in Community Hospital in Anderson.

He was a native of Hamilton County. He had resided in Alexandria since 1939. He was a retired of Haynes-Stellite Corp. and had farmed for several years.

Surviving are his wife, Freida; six sons, Keith, Marvin, James and Kenneth, all of Alexandria, Marion of Anderson and Monroe of Arcadia; five daughters, Darlene Brewer of Alexandria, Alice Harshman of Pendleton, Joan Humphries of Frankton, Ethel Smith of Gaston and Carolyn Payne of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Evie McDole of Lapel; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at the Karl M. Kyle Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.
