Adam was the 6th of 7 children of Johann Adam & Maria Elizabeth (Graff) Weiss. Both of his parents were from Gross-Winterheim, Rheinhessen, Germany.

In 1784 Adam married Barbara Zollars. The couple had 8 children:

1. Elizabeth 1785-1869, m. Jacob Shidler Jr
2. David, 1787-1858, m. Esther Shidler
3. Samuel, 1789-1847, m. Elizabeth Shidler
4. George, 1791-1872, m. Margaret C. Ulery, 3 ch
5. Frederick, 1793-1876
6. Rebecca, 1789-1823, m. Peter Crumine
7. Joseph, 1797-1873, m. Permelia Barnard, m2. Julia Welch
8. Solomon, 1799-1868, m. Harriet Alexander
