Thursday Funeral for John Spragg

Masonic rites were conducted Thursday at the funeral service for John Spragg of Hazelton at the Brant Funeral Chapel in Oelwein at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Hazelton Cemetery.

Mr. Spragg 80, a lifetime resident of the Hazelton community, died at the Bakke nursing home in Oelwein at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 13. He had resided at the home for the past 6 months.

He was born in Hazelton Feb. 18, 1878, the son of George E. Spragg and Anna May Voorhies Spragg. On Sept. 11, 1901 he married Bertha Ann Wells of Milford, Iowa. He was a member of the Hazelton AF and AM Lodge.

Survivors include four sons, Floyd and George, Oelwein; Harley, Arnolds Park, Iowa and Charles, Tacoma Wash; two daughters Mrs. Blanche Wilken, Oelwein and Mrs. May Michels Independence.

He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Susan Stout and Mrs. Alice Feller and one brother, Eldon all of Waterloo; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.
