----------------------∼Deacon Stephen Thompson, Sr. was born April 20, 1734 in New Haven, CT and married Mary Walter on Jan 3, 1760. They had 9 children. He fought in the in the Revolutionary War from 1776 to the conclusion. He enlisted as a pvt. in June 1776 in Capt Brackett's co., Col. Wm Douglas' reg't, Wadsworth brigade, CT; on May 27, 1777 in Munson's co., 8th CT reg't; and in Capt Douglas' co., 5th regiment, CT line, from its formation until its consolidation with the 1st reg't of CT line in the autumn of 1781. From June 1776 to the close of the war he took part in the battle of Long Island and retreat to New York; the battles of White Plains, Germantown, Mommouth, Stony Point; and the Siege of Yorktown. Stephen was at Valley Forge when Cornwallis surrendered and was in the campaign about New York and Philadelphia with Gen'l Washington.
In 1800, Thompson's son Dr. Moses Thompson traveled with 7 other men from CT to settle the area that became Hudson, Summit County, Ohio. In 1801, Stephen, Sr. and Mary Thompson and some of their remaining children moved from CT to Hudson and were among the earliest settlers of the area. Stephen Thompson, Sr. died Feb 25, 1823 in Hudson and is buried in the Old Hudson Township Burying Ground.
