Lawrence Junior York passed away Sept.17, 2008, in Ledbetter, Texas, of a heart attack at the age of 64. He was born June 1, 1944, in Richmond, Ind., to Lawrence York and Mavis Louise Kidd York Powell.

Lawrence (Larry) attended grade schools in Vernal and in Liberty, Ind. When he was growing up he played Little League baseball on three different teams in Liberty. He always liked sports. In high school he was on the track team and ran cross country. He won several trophies for winning cross country races. He also worked for farmers in hay fields and at the Woodruff grocery store in Indiana. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended Connersville Branch in Indiana and he was the first boy to graduate from Primary in the branch.

The family returned to Vernal for his senior year, and he graduated from Uintah High School. In Vernal. He worked for Safeway Grocery Store. Then he joined the Air Force In 1962, and served four years. In 1965, he married Maxine Manguray. They became parents of two children, Brian and Vicki. They later divorced.

Larry worked for United Airlines at airports in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco, Calif. He lived in San Mateo, Calif., and then moved to Vacaville, Calif. He married Wendy Lee Farrell in July 21,1999, who has one daughter. He retired from United Airlines after working for 35 years. Then they moved to Ledbetter, Texas, in 2000, and bought a home and small farm. He enjoyed working for several farmers in the area until his health began to decline.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy, Ledbetter; son Brian York; daughter, Vicki York; grandson, Ryan York, Santa Maria, Calif.; stepdaughter; Melissa Blencove and her two children of Vacaville; mother, Mavis Powell, Vernal; sister, Carol (Charles) Robbins, Nibley, Utah; brothers, Sherman (Lana) York, Las Vegas, Nev., and Phillip (Mi Chu) York, Hayward, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence York, Sr.

Graveside services and burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park, at 2 p.m., Oct. 11. 2008.
