Funeral Services for C. E. Curtis, Lapoint Pioneer.

LAPOINT (Special) - Under the direction of the Lapoint Ward Bishopric with Bishop Jerry Harrison presiding, funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday for Charles Edward Curtis Sr., an early pioneer of Lapoint. The chapel was filled to capacity with friends and relatives. A quartet consisting of Mrs. Vera Bigelow, Miss Helene Westlund, George Bigelow and Acel Caldwell sang, "Sometime We'll Understand," "Shall We Meet Beyond The River," and "Oh My Father," Miss Westlund sang a solo, "Face To Face," accompanied by Barbara Rasmussen.

Hayden Foster, life-long friend of Mr. Curtis, told of his faithful work in the church from the time he came to Lapoint to the closing of his active life. Bishop Roy Taylor and Hugh W. Colton of the Uintah Stake Presidency, paid their respects to the deceased and told of the exemplary life that he led. Bishop Harrison was the concluding speaker.

Opening prayer was offered by Roy Taylor and the benediction by A.G. Anderson. The pallbearers were Edward and Arthur Curtis, Dan Adams, Lamar Thacker, Wilford Adams and Arza Adams. A large cortege followed the remains to the Lapoint Cemetery where the grave was dedicated by D.A. Lamoreaux.

Charles Edward Curtis Sr, 75, early settler of the reservation and active church worker, died Friday afternoon March 6, at the home of his son Arthur, of ailments incident to age.

Mr. Curtis came to the reservation when it was first opened, and settled in Lapoint. He was an active member of the LDS Church holding the office of High Priest.

He was married to Bertha L, Jolly of Payson, October 24, 1885 and to their union 12 children were born, nine of which died in infancy. He lost his wife in 1925.

He engaged in agriculture and stockraising, always having an independent living for himself and family, ever willing to help others. Since the death of his wife he has made his home with his son Arthur.

He is also survived by a son Charles Edward, of Pocatello, Idaho, six grandchildrena and three great-grandchildren.
