Synopsis on the family of Charles Seale and Lydia Muse:
Charles Seale was born 10 Feb 1729 in Stafford Co VA; this became Prince William Co VA in 1730. Lydia Muse (c1730/1735 – 1799) married Charles Seale between about 1748 and 1752 in Prince William County Virginia. They were in Orange County North Carolina with her father in September 1753, lived in Cumberland County between about 1754 and 1769, Craven County South Carolina between 1769 and about 1783, Wilkes County Georgia between about 1783 and 1785, and Fairfield County South Carolina (old Craven County) between 1786 and 1799. Charles Seale died in September or October 1798, but there is no record of Lydia's death. In the 1970s, Muse family researcher Robert Muse surveyed an abandoned cemetery in Fairfield County SC in which some Muse family members were buried. It was then in a wooded area, not enclosed by any fence. He was
researching the Muses for the Muse Family Association. He recorded that he found two old stone tombstones with the inscriptions:
C.S. L.S.
1798 1799
Obviously, this would appear to have been the markers for Charles and Lydia Seale. Mr. Muse returned in the 1980s to photograph the stones. However, during this interval, the area had been clear cut and most of the stones destroyed. If correct, this indicates that Lydia Muse Seale died in 1799. It "fits", in that she does not appear as an older female in the households of
any of her children in 1800.
