Dorris Lillian "Granny" Calvin, 96 years, of Sarcoxie, Mo, formerly of LaRussell, Mo, departed this life on Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 2008, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center in Sarcoxie.

Dorris entered this life on Dec. 7, 1911, in Houston, Texas, one of three children born to the late Neils and Emma (Self) Peterson. On March 9, 1932, in Denard, Ark, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Howard Calvin and to this union 13 children were born.

The family resided in Alabama, Texas, California, Kansas, and Oklahoma, before moving to Sarcoxie, in 1955. Throughout her life she was a hardworking and devoted homemaker to her husband and family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, reading, and spending time with her numerous grandchildren. She was a member of the LaRussell Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Howard Calvin on Dec. 10, 1970; four sons, Edward, Harley, Marshall, and Billy Calvin; a daughter, Jackie Parish; a grandson, Michael Parish; great-grandson, Josiah Calvin; and siblings, Lawrence and Gracie Peterson. Dorris is survived by four daughters, Ollie Gage, of Sarcoxie, Joyce Brown and husband, Bob, of El Reno, Okla, Sue Bass, of Sarcoxie, and Jerita "DeeDee" Clemmons and husband, Richard, of Carl Junction, Mo; four sons, John Calvin and wife, Bea, of Haleyville, Ala, Charles Calvin, of LaRussell, CD Calvin and wife, Pam, of Miller, Mo, and Robert Calvin and wife, Evelyn, of Phelps, Mo; 32 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; 50 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Dorris Lillian Calvin are 2 pm Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, with Pastor Tom Shouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Harvey Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are grandsons, John H. Calvin, George Parish, Steve Royster, Matt Bass, David Calvin, and Dennis Zerbonia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm in the funeral home chapel.
