Although it is documented that the Hill family convinced Mary to travel with them from Jasper County, Georgia to Tennessee, at the age of 16, she never uses Georgia as her place of birth on any census sheet. She does however use South Carolina on the 1850 & 1860 census, but this is after she has married Basil Bess, who was also from S.C., so this could have been just a census error as well. So where was she from? Nobody knows for sure, not yet anyway.
