Services Sunday for W. A. 'Hal' Byrd
Scooba citizens were shocked and saddened early Friday morning to learn that Mr. W. A. (Hal) Byrd of Scooba and Macon, had passed away at his hotel room at Macon. He had been in ill health for several years.
Mr. Byrd, member of a prominent family, was born at Binnsville. He was educated at Fairview College at Binnsville and Mississippi College at Clinton. He was 71.
For many years he operated a large general merchandise store at Scooba. He was a Mason and a Baptist. His unfailing good humor and his kind, courteous manner won for him many friends.
Services were held at Scooba Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. L. S. Litchfield, pastor, assisted by Rev. David McIntosh officiating. Burial was in Scooba cemetery.
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Hazel McCollum of Macon and Mrs. Taylor Smith of Booneville; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Tinsley with whom he spent much of his time; Mrs. D. T. Nethery of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Mrs. Dan Kerr of Selman City, Texas, also several grandchildren.
