Anita A. Barnes, age 86, a 69 year resident of Colorado Springs unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at her home in Colorado Springs, CO.

Mrs. Barnes was born November 24, 1921 to Willard A. and Hazel A. (Walker) Walker at the family home in Colorado Springs, CO. As an infant she moved to Westcliffe, CO with her family.

After graduating as Valedictorian from Custer County High School in 1939 she moved to Colorado Springs and attended Colorado College. In 1940 she married Victor G. Barnes, Sr. During WWII, Mrs. Barnes worked at Colorado National Bank while her husband served in the South Pacific.

Following the war, she became a full time homemaker. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Victor G. Barnes, her son, Thomas Walker Barnes and a sister, Jacquline Wallace.

She is survived by two children Victor G. (Jacke) Barnes, Jr. and Marcia A. (Roger) Gregg, and a sister Willdra A. Baker all of Westcliffe, CO, as well as five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 201 S 3rd Street, Westcliffe, CO with interment at Ula Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Luke's, P.O. Box 208, Westcliffe, CO 81252 or a charity of your choice.
