Andrew F. Sudzina, Cordia Commons at Shenango Inn, Sharon, formerly of Pine Hollow Boulevard, Hermitage, died of natural causes at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 89.
Mr. Sudzina was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Farrell to Michael Sudzina and Anna Kolibas Sudzina.
A graduate of Farrell High School, he was an engineer for 30 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. In his adult life, Andy was certified from Pennsylvania State University under the Engineering, Science and Management Defense Training Program in engineering and drafting.
As a member of St. Ann's Church, Farrell, he belonged to the church choir. He was a also a member of the Shenango Valley Senior Citizens Center, Hermitage; and the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Farrell.
He was very mechanically inclined and built his own home in Hermitage.
In his youth, Andy played baseball for the Spearman Avenue Pirates, a former semi-pro team in Farrell. He was inducted into Mercer County Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
His wife, the former Vera E. Grega, whom he married on Feb. 8, 1941, died on March 24, 1999.
Surviving are: a daughter, Barbara Lallo, wife of William, Austintown, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Kelly May, wife of Elden, Flatwoods, Ky.
Besides his wife, Mr. Sudzina was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Sudzina; three brothers, John, Michael and George Sudzina; and three sisters, Mary Andriyo, Anna Goda and Susanne Zager.
