Obituary: Newport Plain Talk-May 27, 1932: Mrs. Melvina Sawyer, 83, well known lady of the Bybee section, died at her home, May 23. Funeral services were held at Glendale (United Methodist Church) on May 25 at 10 o'clock. Interment was in Glendale Cemetery. Four ministers assisted in the services -- Revs. Reed, Holdway, Buckner, and Carroll. Mrs. Sawyer is survived by the following children: Will, J.L. and J. A. Sawyer, Mrs. Addie Martin, and Mrs. J. H. Holdway. One brother Will Green of Knoxville also survives. Pallbearers: Francis Knight, Horace Knight, Leslie Fox, Robert Holdway, Willie Frank Holdway, and Forest Knight. Flower Girls: Chloris Holdway, Hazel Sawyer, Reble Sawyer, Zora Holdway, Ruby Sawyer, Shirley Sawyer, Vina Flowers, and Gertrude Denton.
