John Thomas Upchurch passed away August 14, 2008.

John is survived by Joyce, his wife of 50 years; his son and daughter-in-law Nicholas and Margaret; granddaughter, Nicole, grandsons, Johnny and Daniel; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Estelle; great granddaughter, Italia Castro; his daughter and son-in-law, Eve and David Altom; and granddaughters, Chelsey and Crystal.

John is also survived by his sisters, Paulina Logan, Emma Bennet, Evelyn Moore; his sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Carl Lawrence; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Joe Berry.

John was preceded in death by his son Mitchell; parents, Paul and Emma; and brother, James.

John was "Uncle Johnny" to many nieces and nephews and was honored many times by friends and family who named their sons after him.

John enjoyed hosting get-togethers in his home and was frequently the center of attention being well known as a lively story-teller.

John particularly enjoyed reminiscing about his brother's and sister's youthful escapades at family gatherings.

John was born February 11, 1936 and grew up in Visalia the son of pioneer cotton farmers. He was especially proud of his parent's work ethic.

John was a retired Teamster having driven Big Rigs for over 25 years.

John, along with his wife Joyce, raised their children in the Bay Area.

After John retired, he and his wife moved to Hughson California.

Arrangements have been made at Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson.
