Obituary
Mrs. Emma Spears Dies

Mrs. Emma Spears, another pioneer resident of this community, died at her home in Kansas City early Tuesday morning, May 26, 1953. She had been in failing health for several years and practically bedfast since the first of this year. Her age was 86 years, 76 months and 25 days.

Emma Ann, daughter of Albertine and John McCammon, was born October 1, 1866, in Indiana. The family moved to Texas and when Emma was 14 years old they came in a covered wagon to Kansas and lived in the Somerset community. Here she grew to womanhood and when she was 18 years old she was united with the Baptist Church in Somerset. On January 1, 1890, she was united in marriage to Henry Spears and became a mother to three step-sons, Ed, Charles and Will. Ed and Charles preceded their parents in death. The couple moved to a farm in the Pony Creek community northeast of Louisburg. They became the parent of six children, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. Spears died November 21, 1924, and Mrs Spears moved into Louisburg until she went to Kansas City to make her home there nine years ago.

Mrs. Spears has been a member of the Baptist Church of more than sixty-five years. She was a very regular attender and a loyal worker. She especially enjoyed the Keystone Class of the Louisburg Baptist Church, of which she was a member for many years. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge but her family and home came first in her thoughts and labors.

She is survived by her four children, Roy and Don Spears, Mrs. Mary Pumphrey and Mrs. Katherine Adkins, all of Kansas City; one step-son, W.H. Spears of Bucyrus, 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, May 28, 1953, at the Baptist Church in Louisburg. Rev. Emil J. Carlson will conduct the services and Frank Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Henry Miller, will sing the hymns. The pallbearers will be Harold Spears, W.H. Spears, Jr., John Spears, Everett Reeder, Ivan Wolf and Hallie Evans. Burial will be in the Louisburg cemetery.
