Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin for Vesta Cornell, 97, of Hampton Nursing Manor in Herrin. She died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1979, at the Herrin Hospital. Burial will be in the Blairsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Cornell was a member of the First Christian Church in Herrin. She was born Feb. 27, 1882, in Dis-wood, to James and Julia Denton Childers. She was married hi 1904, in Cairo, to Horace Cornell Sr. He died in 1958. Survivors include a son, Horace Cornell Jr. of Herrin; two daughters, Ruby Watson of Hurst, and Thelma Mahan of Kansas City, Kans.; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a son, Ralph.
