Lt. William Robert Allen, 23, a flyer with the US Navy stationed at Pensacola, Florida, was killed Saturday mornng in an airplane crash in Pensacola.
He was born in Surry County to Mr. and Mrs. William E. Allen. He graduated from Mount Airy High School and Catawba College at Salsbury. He ranked third in his class at Air Training Command School at Pensacola.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Laurie Moorefield Allen, a son, Kemp Allen of the home at Pensacola; his parents of North Main Street, Mount Airy, a brother Andy Allen of Pfeffer College, Misenheimer; two sisters Mrs. Ann Allen of Bristol, VA and Mrs. Wallace Boyd of Charleston, SC and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. L Rumley of Greensboro.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 o'clock today at the Naval Air Base at Pensacola. The body will then be returned to Mt. Airy for graveside rites.
