~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the 1850 census, he is listed living in the Eastern District of Stafford with his (presumed) wife Elizabeth, and twins Mary and William, age 2, and infant Henry age 0.
In the 1860 census, he is listed living near Stafford Courthouse, working as a laborer, living with Mary Bruton (or Burton?) age 33, along with 7 children, last names unlisted. First were Mary and William, twins, age 13, and Henry, now 10. Next came Cornelia, Lucy and James, ages 9, 6 and 4. And then baby Susan, age 1.
He married Charlotte Chilton Oct. 19, 1865. In the marriage register he is listed as a widower.
In the 1870 census, he and Charlotte are living in Passapatanzy, King George County, with 12-year-old Susan, and their 2 young daughters Roberta and Ida Bell. He is listed as a farmer. Of the many other children and the first wife, no record is yet found. They may have succumbed to the Scarlet Fever epidemic of the early 1860's, but many death records of Stafford County in those years are not available.
In the 1880 census, he's still farming but now in Hartwood in Stafford County. They've added Rosa Lee, Sarah E. and Walter A. to their family, Susan is no longer included.
George Thomas Humphries was the last child born, in 1882. He and his sister Sarah Elizabeth, were living with their widowed mother in the 1900 census in Fredericksburg, but left the area and in 1930 were living together in Los Angeles, CA.
