Winford B. Atkins Jr., a Lorton resident for more than 28 years, died of a heart attack Friday at the Mt. Vernon Hospital. He was 64. Mr. Atkins, known as "Wimpy," worked as a plumbing inspector for Fairfax County for nearly 20 years before retiring. Before that Mr Atkins owned a plumbing business and a grocery store in the area. Mr Atkins is survived by his wife, Doris Atkins; three daughters, Sharon Gudgel of Columbia, S.C., Anita Strine of Suitland, Md., and Kathy Atkinson of Port Jefferson, Ohio; one son, Keith Elliott, of Lorton; one sister, Francis Rawlings; 10 grandchildren; one one great-grandson. He was buried at Quantico National Cemetery, with military honors.

Wimpy and Doris were my brother and sister in law. It ceratinly was a sad day when they passed on. I will always remember the fun times we had at the Widewater Beach and all the other family get togethers. I surely miss them both.
