Cross Rites Set Thursday.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for Herschel M. Cross of Rt. 2, Perkins. The Rev. Max Rudd will officiate at the service in the Oak Grove Cemetery southwest of Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He died at his home on Monday, Dec. 17, 1990, at the age of 88. Memorials are suggested to go to the Lost Creek United Methodist Church of which he has been a member since 1918. Contributions may be mailed to Rt. 6, Box 250, Stillwater, 74074.
The son of John and Peral [sic] Barker) Cross, he was born in the Marena Community in Indian Territory on April 2, 1902. He attended schools at Oakdale, Willow Springs and Marena.
He and the former Ila Bryan were married Oct. 26, 1930, and they had lived in the Stillwater-Perkins area until she predeceased him on Aug. 26, 1965. He was a farmer and dairyman in addition to being an auctioneer and a mechanic.
On Jan. 30, 1970, he and the former Katherine Jacobs Arthur were married in Stillwater.
His first wife and a brother Ancil Cross have predeceased him.
Surviving are his wife of their home on Rt. 2; two step-daughters, Mrs. Mack (Deanna) Braziel of Wellston and Mrs. Don (Debbie) Jordan of Arlington, Texas; three step-sons, Dr. Nolan Arthurs and his wife, Bobbi, of Fayetteville, Ark., Charles and Bettye Arthur of Purcell, and Tony and Julie Arthur of Stillwater. There are 15 step- grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. His brother, Marvin Cross of Stillwater, also survives.
