Clifford H. "Basket" Alexander, 80 died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 1989, at Jerseyville Care Center. Alexander was a WW II Army veteran. He was a construction driver with teamsters local 525 for 20 years, retiring in 1971, and owned White Way Cafe in Jerseyville from 1940 - 50. born in Fidelity, he was the son of the late Sanford and Verna Reno Alexander. On June 11, 1927, in Jerseyville, he married the former Thelma Woolsey. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Dr. Charles Alexander of Jerseyville; two daughters, Patsy Moore and Ruth Ann Cory, both of Jerseyville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 4 - 9 p.m. today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services are 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Larry Hayes officiating. Rites will be conducted at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville by Jerseyville American Legion and VFW Post 492.
