Maureen La Verne was the daughter of Albert Franklin & Una Lewis (Pigman) Bell. She had a twin brother, Maurice Franklin.

Maureen's father had a good job as a logging contractor, and her parents felt blessed on September 23, 1928, with twins. Her mother's world was shattered exactly two months later, November 23, 1928, when her father was accidentally killed in a dynamite explosion when she & her brother were two months old.
