James Monroe Barnett married Miss Nora Reeves in 1897 at McLennan County, Texas. The couple moved from there to Jean, Texas in 1906. The couple were members of the Medlan's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Services for James Monroe Barnett, 84, were held at Loving Baptist Church officiated by Elder O Strickland assisted by Rev. Roberts, pastor of Jean Baptist Church.
Mr. Barnett was a retired farmer.
Survived by five daughters - Miss Golda Barnett, Mrs. Herman Rubenkoenig, Mrs. Fred Cox, Mrs. Cleve Baldwin, Mrs. W.L. Simmons; two sons - R.J. Barnett and Eldwyn Barnett; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother - William Barnett.

James Monroe Barnett was the first president of the Young County Farm Bureau. It was his untiring and constant efforts that a county Farm Bureau was established in Young County. He gave of his time and money in establishing and piloting the organization in its infancy. He was never too busy to go visit a sick friends and administer to his needs.
