September 27, 2008 Charles R. Striker, 47, of West Oneonta, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Chuck was born on January 31, 1961 in Orlando, Florida, the son of Charles G. and Marlene (Hoffman) Striker. Chuck served his country for 8 years in the US Marine Corps. He was a life member of the AMVETS - Dept. Post NY 729, the Valley American Legion Post 148 in Syracuse, VFW Post 7290, a life member of the Greater Syracuse Marine Corps League, the Military Order of the Devil Dogs, the Free & Accepted Masons Oriental Lodge 20 of Mesa, Arizona, the 40/80 Volture 359, and the Leather Stocking Funeral Directors Association. Chuck was a funeral director for the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home in Oneonta for the past 2.5 years. He assisted many families with getting the deceased veterans the benefits that they were entitled to receive. Prior to that, he worked for different funeral homes in both New York and Arizona. Chuck played the trumpet in several local bands including the Liverpool American Legion Drum Corp. He also loved to listen to polka music. Chuck is survived by his sisters, Dianne Snell and her husband, Brad of Binghamton, Susan Striker and her fiancée, Edward Riester of East Syracuse and Rhonda Striker and her fiancée, Robert Ure of East Syracuse; his brother, R. Stephen Striker of Georgia. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Katrina Clute, Elise Snell and Robert Ure. He was predeceased by his parents. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Delaney-Greabell-Adydan Funeral Home, 241 Kinne Street, E. Syracuse, at which time the family will be in attendance. A service to celebrate Chuck's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Delaney-Greabell-Adydan Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the charity of the donor's choice.
