Ness City -- Mary Anna Goatley, 97, died Nov. 11, 1999, at Ness County Hospital. She was born Oct. 31, 1902, at Munjor, the daughter of John and Catherine Wasinger Sauer.


A Ness County resident since 1915, and a resident of Ness County Long Term Care since 1988, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Sacred Heart Church, Ness City.


On Oct. 31, 1950, she married Jerry Goatley at Bazine. He died May 27, 1970.


Survivors include: a stepson, Loy Goatley, Commerce City, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Dora Solomon, Rush Center; nine step grandchildren; 28 step great-grandchildren; and 27 step great-great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by eight brothers [7 listed], George, Wendelin, Albert, William, Vincent, Jacob and John Sauer; and four sisters, Dorothy Gassman, Barbara Pfannenstiel, Mary Eva Fox and Ludwina Simmons. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at Fitzgerald Fiuneral Home, Ness City.


Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church Church, Ness City, with Father Gregory LeBlanc presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, both at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
