Mahlon Hacker, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Marion Township,
died Thursday. He was 70 years old, had been a soldier, was a lifelong and
active Republican and an honored citizen of the community.

Mahlon Hacker, a well known citizen of the county, died at his home in Marion
Township on Thursday. He was 70 years old and an honored citizen in his
community. The funeral will occur today at Precinct church.

Mahlon HACKER, is a native of Clay County, Ky., was born December 4,
1829, and is one of the family of Valentine and Mary (SPIRES) HACKER,
natives of Tennessee; the former of German, the latter of Irish descent.
Mahlon HACKER was reared on the farm and obtained but little schooling
in his youthful days. When sixteen years of age, he left home and
undertook his own living by working by the month or by the day. When a
young man, he married Nancy FULFORD, of this county, a union which was
smiled upon by nine children, of whom seven are living - F.T., Jonathan,
Mary E. (now Mrs. McDONALD), C.J., Florence M., Andrew W. and Isabel D.
Mr. HACKER is the possessor of 120 acres and also a partner in a half
section of timber land. August, 1862, he enlisted in Company B,
Sixty-seventh Regiment Indiana Volunteers, and participated in the
battles of Munfordville (where he was captured and paroled), and at
Arkansas Post; he was discharged April, 1863, and re-enlisted as a
veteran in October, 1864, and was therefrom discharged May, 1865. Mr.
HACKER is a worthy citizen; in politics, Republican and he and wife are
honored as members of the Baptist Church.

Overview: Organized at Madison, Ind., and mustered in August 20, 1862. Ordered to Louisville, Ky., and attached to 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, Army of Kentucky, Dept. of the Ohio. Siege of Munfordsville, Ky., September 14-17. Captured September 17, paroled and sent to Indianapolis, Ind. Reorganizing at Indianapolis till December. Ordered to Memphis, Tenn., December 10. Attached to 1st Brigade, 10th Division, Right Wing 13th Army Corps (Old), Dept. of the Tennessee, December, 1862. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Sherman's Yazoo Expedition, to January, 1863. 1st Brigade, 10th Division, 13th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee, to August, 1863. 1st Brigade, 4th Division, 13th Army Corps, Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, 19th Army Corps, Dept. of the Gulf, to December, 1864. 2nd Brigade, Reserve Division, Military Division West Mississippi, December, 1864.
