FORT EDWARD and SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Mary Tkac, 87, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on Sept. 11, 1921 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of Frank and Orsola (Izzo) Caputo. She was one of 19 children in the family born and raised in Fort Edward.
She attended school in Fort Edward and graduated from Fort Edward High School. On Nov. 25, 1945, she married Andrew R. Tkac and after a short time in Cleveland, Ohio, they settled in Fort Edward to raise their family.
Mary was an independent insurance agent and owned and operated Local Insurance on Broadway in Fort Edward. In this capacity she placed insurance for local customers through several insurance companies.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fort Edward and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Morrissey No. 1477, where she was treasurer. She was a member of the Fort Edward chapter of the Hospital Guild for 30 years. Mary enjoyed cooking and loved experimenting with recipes. She especially enjoyed baking goodies for holidays.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by all 18 of her siblings: two girls and one boy who died in infancy and 10 brothers: Joseph, Anthony, James, Charles, Louis, Dominic, John, Marco, Samuel and Henry Caputo and five sisters: Fannie Ross, Isabelle Catone, Dr. Carmela (Meg) Caputo, Dorothy Aurelia and Christine Burt.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Andrew; her son Andrew J. Tkac of Fredericksburg, Va., and many nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Edward.
