Donald Jay Alexander, 87, passed away on September 3, 2006. He was born in Oskaloosa, Kansas, on June 10, 1919, the son of Byrde Grace (Casebier) and Jay DeWitt Alexander.

He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1937 and from the University of Kansas in 1942 as a mining engineer.

After college he joined the Marine Corps. During World War II, he served in five campaigns in the Pacific, rising to captain and earning the Bronze Star.

After the war, he and his wife, Mildred Grace "Mij" (Mastin), moved to Miami, AZ. They had two daughters, Kay and Donna. When the copper mines closed, the family spent a short time in Grants, NM; then moved Prescott, AZ, where Don worked for the U.S. Forest Service.

After his wife, Mildred Grace "Mij" (Mastin), died of cancer in 1970, he married Dorothy Ann (Uland) Poole. They moved to Albuquerque, NM. She also preceded him in death in 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Kay Vargo and Donna Wiehn; five grandchildren; and one sister.
