Calvin F. Ashelman, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Ashelman, of 811 West Elm street, and a private in the Fourteenth cavalry, U. S. A., stationed at Eagle Pass, Tex., was accidentally shot and killed Saturday. The announcement of his death came in a telegram from Lieut. Everett Collins of the regiment. The body will be buried at Eagle Pass in the government cemetery.
Ashelman enlisted three years ago, and in June when trouble seemed imminent with Mexico enlisted for another year. Prior to going into the army he was a repairman for the Scranton Gas and Water company. He is survived by his parents and the following sisters: Misses Gertrude, Mildred and Ruth; Mrs. Walter Van Camp, of Dunmore, and Mrs. F. G. Thompson, of North Dakota.
