Longtime Anchorage resident and retired educator Patricia Mesplay, 69, died Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2007, due to complications from cancer. A service was held with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Benedict Church, 8118 Jewel Lake Road.

She graduated from Antioch High School in 1955 and attended Holy Names College. She graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1959, receiving her teaching credential in 1960. In 1970, Pat moved to Anchorage with her husband, Jay, and their three children. She taught in Anchorage for more than 20 years. She was a master teacher at Bartlett High School. She served as director of volunteers at Providence Hospital for many years. She was member of Soroptimists, BBOGS and St. Benedict Church. She volunteered at the Native Heritage Center, the Anchorage Municipal Library, the Bishop's Attic and Alaska Humanities Forum. In retirement, she enjoyed worldwide travel and summers at the family cabin on the Russian River in northern California.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Ruby; son and daughter-in-law, James and Marnie Mesplay; son, Andrew Mesplay and his friend, Anne Ward; grandchildren, Mistie Ruby, Jacqui Ruby-Major, Nathaniel Mesplay and Natalie Mesplay; siblings Helen and Paul Vassar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Mesplay; grandchild, Nicole Mesplay; and great-grandchild, Xzavier Moore Donations to Helping Hands of Nepal, 2930 Brittany Drive, Anchorage 99504, and Alaska Native Heritage Center, 8800 Heritage Center Drive, Anchorage, 99506, are preferred.
