Alonzo S. Curchin, Dies in 68th Year

LITTLE SILVER—Alonzo Smith Curchin, 68, of Mt Branch ave., who for a number of years operated his own barber shop on Linden pl., Red Bank, and in the old Second National Bank building at Broad and Wallace sts, died Friday at Riverview hospital. Mr. Curchin was born In Fair Haven, son of the late William L. and Malvina L. Smith Curchin. A resident of Fair Haven and Red Bank several years, he had lived here the put 30 years. Mr. Curchin attended Embury Methodist church here, and was a member of Mystic Brotherhood, Free and Accepted Masons of Red Bank. He was an exempt member of the Fair Haven Fire company and a member of the Junior Order, United American Mechanics. For many years while living in Fair Haven he worshipped at the Chapel of the Holy Communion. He was one of the third generation of the Curchin family to take up the barber's trade. His son Kenneth, who succeeded his father, is the fourth generation of this family to carry on the trade of their great-grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Mabel Hayden Curchin and three sons, Red Bank Patrolman , Alonzo S. Curchin, Jr., Kenneth H. Curchin, Eatontown, proprietor of Churchin
barber shop on Linden pl., and Frank H. Curchin, living at home; two sisters, Mrs. Harry C. Anderson, Springfield, and Mrs. Elmer K. Wegle, Plalnfleld; four brothers, William L. Curchin, Plnckney rd., Red Bank; George W. Curchin, Fair Haven borough tax collector; Lester Curchin, Rochester, N.Y. , and Mortimer Curchin, Ithaca, N.Y., and two granddaughters.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Embury Methodist church, with Rev. James W. Marshall, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Leon Eastmond was organist. Burial, under the direction of the Worden funeral home, was in Greenlawn cemetery, West Long Branch. Bearers were John L. Brand, John L. W. Brand, Peder J. Gisleson, Fred Brower, Arthur W. Davison and Lewis A. Davison.

The many floral pieces were conveyed to the cemetery by members of the Fair Haven volunteer fire company in one of the department's apparatus, draped in mourning in respect for their comrade, a man of sterling character and held In high esteem by all who knew him.
