The engraving on family stone shows family name as Dimon rather than Dimond as listed in military records.

Co K 24th Iowa Infantry

From Civil War Military Records:
Sidney B Dimond age 18 of Jackson County,Iowa nativity Illinois enlisted Feb 29 1864 into Co K 24th Iowa Infantry as Pvt.
Killed in action Oct 19 1864 at Battle of Cedar Creek,VA. Buried Winchester Nat Cemetery Lot 76.

Mathew T. Dimond, his father, was in the same company of 24th Iowa Infantry Mathew was the Waggoneer. After the great Battle at Cedar Creek, Mathew T. Dimond went onto the battlefield and found his son's body and tagged Sidney's name on several pieces of his clothing so that when he was buried, he could be identified on his marker. Sidney was one of the extremely few who was identified.
