Elizabeth Hassan married Patrick McCloskey in County Derry, Ireland . She was from Banagher and Patrick was from Killunacht. They emigrated immediately and settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. Four children are documented to date though there were probably more. Eliza's oldest son, John, became the first American cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Her husband Patrick died about 1820 in New York. Eliza died on March 26, 1885 and is buried in the old St. Patrick's churchyard on Mulberry Street.
