Information shared by - Karen Frizzelle.
--------------------------------------------------
They settled in Mecklenburg NORTH CAROLINA and this line is VERY WELL documented here with primary source documentation https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ncschgs/knoxfam.htm#K02 however users on F.A.G. have mixed up the two John Knox Juniors (one of Mecklenburg NORTH CAROLINA and the other of Chester SOUTH CAROLINA). Two different men named John Knox Jr in two different states but F.A.G. has them "blended" and now it's linked to Ancestry & Family Search and Wiki also shows the same errors!

This is the memorial for Ann THE DAUGHTER OF ANN & JOHN KNOX JUNIOR that lived and died in Mecklenburg NC. Her mother, Ann, married John Knox Jr (F.A.G. memorial 34326011... he NEVER married Elizabeth Gaston of SOUTH CAROLINA... this is an error started on F.A.G. and now perpetuated all over Family Search, Ancestry & Wiki).

Somebody has linked Elizabeth Gaston OF SOUTH CAROLINA as the wife of NC-John Jr INSTEAD OF ANN and some of the children of Elizabeth Gaston & her husband (the John Knox Jr. of SOUTH CAROLINA) are listed as children of NC-John Jr's on his Find-A-Grave memorial... it is so mixed up on Find-A-Grave (and repeated on Wiki and Ancestry) that they morph Elizabeth Gaston into Elizabeth "Ann" Gaston because they see the name of "Ann" as NC-John Jr.'s wife in his 1777 Will and, instead of making NC-John Jr's wife named Ann (as it should be) they change Elizabeth Gaston to Elizabeth Ann Gaston to "make it fit.

Find-A-Grave is user-entered and only as reliable as the user entering the details. They have bastardized Elizabeth Gaston Knox' SOUTH CAROLINA descendants so badly that children belonging to NC-John Jr list their mother as Elizabeth Gaston (instead of Ann) in the user created *obits*. Users "create obits" that are wrong & now the children of the SC-John Knox Jr are listed under the NC-John Knox Jr.

Ancestry now links to Find-A-Grave and so the glaring error gets perpetuated there and now Family Search & Wiki are repeating this "user-entered" source (which really isn't a "source" at all since it is user-entered and not PRIMARY SOURCE DOCUMENTATION).

Online trees, Find-A-Grave, Wiki and Family Search have NC-John Jr & NC-Ann's children as the children of SC-Elizabeth Gaston Knox. They then change dates of birth of the children to "make them fit" so all the *obits* entered for Ann and NC-John Knox Jr children ARE WRONG.

For example:
Here is the Find-A-Grave memorial for NORTH CAROLINA John Jr's daughter Elizabeth: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/54347360/elizabeth-elliott

Her obit starts out: "Betsy was born in County Antrim, the oldest daughter of John and Elizabeth Gaston Knox. She immigrated with her family to South Carolina in 1767" ...NO SHE WASN'T... NO SHE DIDN'T (that wasn't NC-John Jr's emigration record, that was the emigration record of SC-John Knox Jr so you can't just put Elizabeth as the daughter of a man in another states because you "think" that's her father. SC-John Knox Jr (and his wife Elizabeth Gaston) NEVER had a daughter named Elizabeth as evidenced by his will)

~Elizabeth was the daughter of NC-John Jr and his wife Ann as evidenced by his will.

And that is just one of the NUMEROUS goofs on just one of NC-John Jr's kids on F.A.G.... just one!

And now it's like that everywhere.

Here is the beginning of the obit for NC-John Jr's daughter, Ann, on Find-A-Grave:
"Daughter of, John Knox & Elizabeth Gaston Knox" ...Wrong again!

People literally change lineages when they take NC-John Jr & give him the spouse & children of SC-John Jr

~The children of Ann & NC-John Jr are listed as "Elizabeth Gaston" as their mother instead of Ann.
~Ann should be listed WITH HER REAL CHILDREN as the wife of NC-John Jr, as listed in his will
~NC-John Jr names children in Will: James, Samuel, Matthew, Joseph, Sarah, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann. None of his children have spouses listed as they are unmarried &/or underage. Also names his wife, Ann
~NC-John Jr married Ann so Elizabeth Gaston should not be listed as their mother nor should Elizabeth Gaston be listed as his wife.
