The son of George E. & Louisa (Eichelberger) Trone, in 1860 he was presumably living in or near Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found in that census.

A Civil War veteran of brief duration, he enlisted in Hanover June 17, 1863, during the Gettysburg crisis, mustered into state service that same day at Harrisburg as a musician with Co. I, 26th Pennsylvania Militia, and honorably discharged with his company July 30, 1863.

He married Louisa M. Thomas and fathered Mable K. "Mabbie" (b. 02/27/68 - married a Schriver) and Ralph E. (b. 09/11/72). Cause of his death is listed as "chronic interstitial nephritis with mitral insufficiency."
