79, a lifelong resident of Naperville. At rest, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at his home. He was born August 27, 1928 in Aurora, the sixth of ten children born to Cecil and Adeline Brown, Sr. Brownie is survived by his five children, Mark (Patricia) Brown of Batavia, Debbie (Kurt) Harper of Batavia, Jan (the late Dan) Brummel of Batavia, Michael (Nancy) Brown of Batavia, and Kathy (Scott) Tirevold of Sandwich; his 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchilden; his sister, Sylvia (Bill) Roy of Tennessee and Ronald (Nancy) Brown of Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan R. Brown (nee Baumgartner) in 2005.

Sam was an All-Star Football and Basketball player, and a graduate of Naperville Central High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he started his career as a salesman with Hines Lumber Co. and retired 36 years later as a Manager at the Downers Grove location. Brownie loved to garden and grew every flower and vegetable. He spent many of his days fishing, playing pitch with his buddies, and singing to his grandkids.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 29, 2:00 until 7:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville. Prayers will begin Monday, June 30, 9:30 AM from the funeral home and proceed to a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville. Interment will follow at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
