Graveside services was at 10:30 AM Monday September 22, 2008 at the Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Swigart of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were made with the Nichols-Zwanziger Funeral Home of Woodward. Maxine was born to Charles and Alice Johnson Stultz. She departed this life at the Woodward Regional Hospital at the age of 90. Maxine attended and graduated Moorewood High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Rufus Benton on December 25, 1941 in Elk City, Oklahoma. They had two children Paul and Audria Ann. In 1951 the family moved to Woodward where Maxine worked as a Dispatcher and in the City Clerks office for the City of Woodward. She was united in marriage to Leo (Red) Chastain on January 31, 1969 in Woodward. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, the Woodward Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and the Meals on Wheels team. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Lucky Dozen Club. She loved arts and crafts and crocheting for her family and friends. She is survived by her children Paul Benton and wife Francis of Woodward and Audria Ann Quisenberry and husband John of Kansas City, Missouri, 5 grandchildren Benjamin Quisenberry of Tulsa, Kathleen Wells and husband Daniel of Huntsville, Alabama, Todd Benton and wife Christie of Woodward, Van Benton and wife Monika of Heavener, and Scott Benton and wife Lisa of Custer City, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a host of friends.Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Rufus Benton and Leo (Red) Chastain, and her sister.
