Madys Katherine Martin Adkins, born May 3, 1913, to Elgie and Blanche Bookwalter Martin of Twelve Mile, Ind., died May 8, 2010.

A devoted Christian, Madys was baptized in February 1921 at Twelve Mile United Brethren Church by the Rev. Irwin Ade. A graduate of Manchester College in 1933 and 1965, she taught 32 years in Cass County and Caston Schools.

She married Orville Adkins May 7, 1939. They moved to Columbus on November 1, 1939. He preceded her in death May 5, 1984.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Stanley Adkins, and grandchildren, Megan Watson, Shanan Adkins and Bretton Adkins of Indianapolis. Her memories live on in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, Penelope, Maxwill and Charlotte Watson.

Madys was an artist of many paintings, and several will be displayed at her service.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., with the Rev. James Miller officiating. Calling will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Twelve Mile.
