James Harold Atkins, 67, died Feb. 26 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Services were Feb. 29 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin McDonald officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Atkins was born April 4, 1932 at Hollis, Okla., the son of Joe and Rachel Baccus Atkins.
He was married to Jesie Nell Sisson on June 23, 1956 at Hollis, Okla. He was a member of Hamilton V.F.W. and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Korea. He received decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons as follows. The Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nation Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. He served in the National Guard at Wichita Falls, retiring in 1991 as a CW 3 Chief Warrant Officer after serving his country for more than 30 years.
Bobby Joe West, a half brother, precedes him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Nell Atkins; four daughters, Turena Brakenridge, Cindy Hauer, Jody Just, and Bron Brakenridge; nine grandchildren and a sister, Wanda McKay.
Pallbearers were Mickey Kinsey, Howard Fredrick, Jerry Munson, Bill Shipman, Jim Thompson, Bob Barnett and Matt Englebrett
